Come witness basketball history as the Fairmont Prep Huskies battle the San Gabriel Academy Eagles on Monday, January 14. For the first time ever, Fairmont Prep has the opportunity to play at STAPLES Center, home of the Los Angeles Clippers and the LA Kings.

We sat down with Boys’ Basketball Coach Joedy Gardner and talked about this unique opportunity. “San Gabriel Academy is a well-respected program with at least three high-level, Division 1 players on the Varsity Team. The level of play and skill of both the JV and Varsity teams will be evident that afternoon. We are looking forward to this game and so is San Gabriel Academy.”

The event starts at Fairmont Prep where ticket holders will be transported by bus to STAPLES Center. “We are so excited that so many people from Fairmont want to join us for this special event.    Our teachers, friends, students and administration will all be coming to support the team. It’s a great honor to play at the STAPLES Center.”

Although excitement is high, one concern shared by both our JV and Varsity teams is playing such a big arena. Coach Gardner explained, “the backdrop is different, and shooting the basketball with so much space around the court will affect the scoring at first. The NBA court is larger, so timing will be affected. San Gabriel has also played at STAPLES for nearly ten years.”

This spectacular sporting event culminates with the Los Angeles Clippers taking on the New Orleans Pelicans at 7:30 pm. Tickets are still available online until Friday, December 21, and the ticket price includes Clippers game. Click here for tickets.
