‘Twas the first day of spring break and all over Fairmont
Not a teacher was stirring, not even Demont
The lockers were closed by the hallway with care
In hopes that Mr. Romo was not there
The students were home all snug in their beds
While visions of APs danced in their heads
And me in my office with the counseling staff
Were just getting ready for a week-long nap
When out by the flagpole there arose such a clatter
That I sprang from my office to see what was the matter
And what to my wondering eyes did appear
But a lost freshman with a look of fear
I came outside and asked, “what’s the matter?”
But they were so lost they could barely sputter
“I’m late for school” is what they cried out loud
“No school today” I replied quite proud
Then a look of relief came over their face
As they turned and hightailed out of this place
But me, I returned to my office with a tear
Knowing that not till 4:00 could I leave here
And so sat the campus all empty and alone
With all of the students back at their homes
I ran to my car and exclaimed as I drove out of sight
Happy Spring Break to all, and to all a good night!
