The Fairmont Prep winter sports teams have performed exceptionally well this 2018-2019 winter season. Under the expert coaching of Robert Viviano, the Boys and Girls Soccer teams both reached the playoff rounds of the CIF championship.
The Varsity Boys Soccer team went undefeated, boasting a 10-0 league record and 16-1 record overall. After triumphing over Academy for Academic Excellence in the CIF 1st Round, the Huskies fought hard in their CIF 2nd Round game up in Los Angeles, eventually dropping to de Toledo. The Varsity Girls Soccer team posted a 9-5-2 record this season, outperforming many teams despite only having a 13-girl squad (11 people are required to complete a team). They dropped in the CIF 1st Round to Desert Hot Springs. Without a doubt, both the soccer teams will return even stronger in
the upcoming 2019-2020 season!
The Lady Huskies also saw spectacular success, having an 8-0 league record. Unfortunately, they fell to JSerra Catholic High School, a member of the formidable Trinity League. This capped off another amazing season by the Division 1 Varsity Girls Basketball team.
The Fairmont Boys Varsity Basketball Huskies traveled to uncharted territory this season as they won the school’s first ever CIF Championship and even made a run to the CIF State Regional Semifinals. With some new additions as well as many familiar faces, the team had to learn to work together this season through intense practices, rigorous games, and memorable team-bonding experiences. Their efforts were reciprocated by their success as they were named undefeated league champions, won the MaxPreps Invitational Tournament against some of the top teams in the country, and beat their newfound rivals at Pacifica Christian an astonishing 4 times. Overall, the Huskies had a remarkable season, changing the athletic culture at the school, and we are beyond excited to see what next season has in store for all our soccer and basketball teams.
